On Thursday morning, July 28, a two vehicle crash in Lowndes Country led to the deaths of two men.

As both of the vehicles were negotiating a curve in the road, the Toyota Tundra left its lane and traveled into the southbound lane, smashing into the Dodge Ram head-on.

Foelker was pronounced deceased at the scene and Dubose was transported to South Georgia Medical Center where he passed away from his injuries.

Elderly Man Killed in a Wreck on Interstate

On Wednesday afternoon, June 8, a man was killed in a wreck on Interstate 75 in Lowndes County.

According to the Georgia State Patrol, a Toyota Tundra which was towing a boat was been driven by 66 year old Danny Robbins of Columbia, S.C. His passenger was 93 year old Bramble Robbins also of Columbia.

Apparently Danny Robbins fell asleep at the wheel and hit a road sign in the emergency area. He over corrected and lost control of the vehicle which then overturned several times, coming to rest in the northbound center lane.

Danny Robbins was wearing a seat belt and was taken to South Georgia Medical Center for treatment of his injuries. However, Bramble Robbins was not wearing a seat belt and he was ejected from the vehicle and was declared deceased at the scene.

The wreck caused major traffic hold ups on the Interstate and it took around 2 hours for the wreckage to be cleared and traffic to start moving.

Man Died in Single Vehicle Wreck

On Saturday night, April 2, a single vehicle wreck killed a man in Brooks County.

According to the Georgia State Patrol, the accident happened at around 10.15 p.m. when a white 2007 Ford F250 which was being driven by 39 year old Curtis Lanier James, of Tallahassee, Fla. was traveling east on Dry Lake Road near Simpson Road in Quitman. Investigators said he was driving too fast for the conditions of the roadway and while negotiating a curve he traveled off the shoulder, hit a mailbox, and then over corrected which caused the vehicle to spin across Dry Lake Road. The pickup then went off the other shoulder, hit a tree then flipped ending up on its roof.

James, who was not wearing a seat belt, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Investigators with the Georgia State Patrol suspect alcohol may have been a contributing factor but are awaiting a toxicology report.

Moped Rider Killed

On Wednesday afternoon, January 27 a moped rider was killed.

According to Valdosta Police Officers, the accident happened shortly after 3.30 p.m in the 1100 block of North St. Augustine Road in front of Lowe’s Home Improvement store. There was a collision between a yellow moped and a white Toyota Tundra pickup truck. The scooter rider, 61 year old David Lee Butler, was taken to South Georgia Medical Center where he died of his injuries.

Police are still investigating how the accident occurred but local residents say that it is a very busy road with many drivers traveling too fast. Police also reminded that motorcycle and moped riders should take additional precautions to protect themselves, by wearing helmets and other protective gear, and making themselves more visible to other vehicles by wearing reflective gear. Other drivers should also ensure that they are aware of their surroundings and keep a special eye out for all of those on two wheels.
